Good, Evil, and our Two Party System - Remixed by Kurt
The following is a corrected version of:
America has been self-limited to a two party system, one where fiscal and morality positions have complete relativism. Ideally one would think that both parties want what’s best for the country. Outside of these two parties, you have the rest of America wondering how did we get here, and why are we stuck here.
The right is self-claimed to fully support the founding principles of this country. In many cases ignoring the flaws that begat this country, and in some cases there is a willful ignorance to the support that this country required in order to become what it is today. To be fair, this version of right/republican has drastically changed and morphed into something that is half-southern democrat of the 19th century and half original republican of a similar time period.
Similarly, the left also claims to support the founding principles of this country, the left seems to embrace the ideals of America of the late 19th and late 20th century as a home for anyone. There is more of a distinct concern for the sins of the past. And also a lot of relativism as far as morality is concerned.
Both sides hide behind the law, and use the law to their advantage. This tug of war, has been used to provide lip service to both bases. From an outsider point-of-view, relative morality comes up here quite often, both with the abortion debate, and the gun debate.
Freedom means different things and the same things on both sides. The freedom to treat people who think or look differently reigns true for both. Equal treatment between people is something both sides have problems with. Historically we can find countless examples of overt racism from those who claim conservatism and republican, coincidentally we can find subversive racism from those who claim to be liberals and democrats. The extreme variants on the two sides use these positions in ways that are dangerous and vile.
The concept of justice and how its applied is also quite interesting as it would appear that today, the right is gifted at holding a hard line stance on anything that pervades justice, until Donald Trump came along. Prior to that there were hints that the hard line stance was weakening within the ranks with the likes of Dick Cheney and his antics and Nixon prior to that. The left has also looked the other way several times, but also when pushed has eaten its own in order to prove a point that justice does mean something. The right has the stench of looking the other way, many times when it has involved POC. And even with it being considered lip service, the left has at least made it known there is awareness and things aren’t fine.
The line tolerant-left is used often by the right, and in some ways I do agree that there is more surface level toleration exhibited by the left, but it only goes so deep. The right makes no qualms about being intolerant of things that are different as I’ve experienced it. This to me leads to fear, and as such could explains many of the political things that have gotten by, to the detriment of many people.
The projection of evil has been one that has been used by both sides repeatedly in describing the other side. And to be honest, I think both sides have a case, as legislating out of spite has now become sport for democrats and republicans.
The President of the USA probably shows the extreme difference between the right and left. The constant support and admiration is a bit chaffing to people on the left, if only because hearing the Right speak of themselves as the party of family values, and relative morality of the right leaves many scratching their heads. While I agree, that the left by giving Trump soooo much attention is probably to their detriment, I do understand the position. I don’t give the left the upper-hand morally here as the behavior of trump in some cases was exhibited with other democrats, but this behavior was vilified by the right, so one would assume that with the energy given previously, that there would not be this blind pass given to Trump.
All, in all the left and right are mirrors of each others with similar flaws. Party over country be damned though, and I think that’s the issue. Both sides believe an extreme approach is the way forward, and it has turned into a game of who is winning.
What’s the fix? Well, folks in the middle have to start speaking up. And for that to happen it means folks who are moderate on both sides need to distance themselves from the extremists. Will that happen? No I doubt it.
So then who gives in first? I have no idea. Trump as president from the GOP lost me. I thought a good moderate republican might be the way back to center for the USA. But right now, it seems winning is the only way forward, and that comes at a cost, which might be the USA.
