I'm sorry I've been so meta on this blog. It was really my intention to rant about bad driving, my love of cars, love of tech and just the oddness of being me.
I have promised myself some sort of ridiculous automobile for my 40th bday. It just dawned on me that this milestone is right around the corner. I've had aspirations for a Nissan GTR, BMW M5, or a Porsche (of some sort). Weird collection but if I was infinitely rich or had more disposable income. I'd have all three. Not for status, but more because I like the driving characteristics of the BMW M5 and the GTR, and for the Porsche the sound of the engine behind me. It's neat.
About a year ago I got hip to the Porsche Cayman. Having driven a 911 at uncomfortable speeds, I was intrigued by how driveable the Cayman was reviewed to be. Very well balanced and not a pendulum waiting to kill you like a 911 (this is not as bad in recent 911s... But it still feels funny in the seat of my pants at speed through a turn).
The GTR is still impossibly expensive for my pocket book and future expenses I foresee. The used 2009 GTR are still holding steady not too far off of their original price. A bit much for that age car for me. Well worth it though to others.
The M5 is another interesting one, but it appears the previous v10 version is questionable in reliability. And the even older e39 (which I love) is technology deficient.
So back to the Porsche. On Friday I went to Porsche of St. Louis to take a gander. Since I was dreaming about a Cayman I figure I should drive one first.
I took a spin and loved every minute. This car was everything I dreamed of. Uncomfortableness of a sports car, rumbling engine noise behind, and a lightening quick shifting transmission. Perfection.
Now I just have to wait till next year. 😄
This will make a great duo next year.
I did drive a special one of a kind Dinan 328 s3 car. It was neat, but too smooth. Oddly while the car was quick it just never felt that way. Weird as it all about perspective. The looseness of my 330ci and rumble of its exhaust just makes it feel like a true sports sedan/coupe.
If I didn't already have my c class. I could see this, but all in all it feels the same as the c class.
